We welcomed new member Pam Sanders to the Self-Healing Committee.
1. Discussions of CAM Health Directory, and LEN co-sponsorship/participation with the Panorama and their Health lecture series were tabled since Marti Sikes and Patti Miller could not make the meeting.
2. It was decided to reschedule the cancelled "Preparing for the Cold and Flu Season" workshop for later in the spring. The focus will change to Spring and Summer self care and relate it to allergies and summer injuries, insects and poison ivy. The title may include "Lower Summer medical costs with Self Care"
3. There was some discussion of the possibility of using a commercial kitchen (Panorama?) to can surplus fruit and veggies and donate to food banks and soup kitchen.
4. There was a brief discussion of "Transition Towns" and training seminar and Ed Mueller's plans for a resource center and list of businesses needed for a self-sustaining community.

Self-Health Care Meeting notes Nov 2 2009
Present- Marti Sikes, Bobbie Rohn, Abby Porter Tim Seims
1. Marti reported positive response to the Stress-free Fest by students, teachers, presenters and admin. The event will be repeated it the future for other classes. It was noted that more time (15 minutes) was needed for each interactive presentation. A quarterly(?) anti-stress program for teachers is also being considered.
2. Work is continuing with the directory.
3. Health com would like to have a Dec. program/public event. "Preparing for the Cold and Flu Season", food, homeopathy, herbs, and home remedies. Sat Dec 5 is the proposed date providing we can find a location for that date.
Plans were finalized. Megan and Debbie of MCP organized the event and LEN
Health Com. helped provide presenters for the five aprox. 8 minute topics.
Marti Sikes-Reflexology, Ann Spiker-Deep Breathing and Joyce Morningstar-Yoga. Megan will be confirming an RN from the hospital for Identifying Stress and Rankin for Stress Management. Presenters to be at school by 10:30. Megan will write up info and directions for presenters.
LEN Health Com. Oct 1 meeting present- Megan, Debbie, Marti, Bobbie, Ann, Abby and guest Leo Gallarano
1. Leo discussed his presentation "Food as Medicine" as possible presentation at Health Expo. It could be the "keynote".
2. We worked on finalizing plans and presenters for the Stress Fest Oct. 29, for 5th graders. There will a 5 minute intro "signs of Stress" followed by 5 aprox 10 minute presentations with children changing rooms between. The topics: 1. Reflexology/pressure points-test anxiety- Marti Sikes 2. Breath Deep- Ann Spiker 3. Guided Imagery -Joyce Morningstar 3. Movement/dance/martial arts- Angeta Petri?? 4. Yoga- ? Marci F. ?? 5. qui gong?
Abby signed letter of partnership between the Local Economy Network (LEN) and Morgan County Partnership (MCP)
The press release calling for participants in the directory appeared in Weds Morgan Messenger.
Megan gave an update on the Anti-Stress Fest that she is organizing for the WSIS
5th grade during Red Ribbon Week (end of October). Marti will help find 5 presenters for the 5 classes rotating during a 1 hour period. There will be 10-15 minute presentations with students changing rooms between. Students will attend 4 sessions total.
Topics for the Fest include: Intro -Recognizing Stress (10 min), Hand Reflexology,
2 Breathing classes , and 2 Movement (yoga and chi gong?) classes. The last 3 interactive topics will be 15 minutes.
